BRD launched a program to initiate a community based approach to cultural heritage preservation and safeguarding in Afghanistan. BRD has organized one day sessions for community organization members in Ningahar provinces. The aim of the session was to raise awareness and sensitize the importance’s of the culture heritage from the historic, social development and peace building prospective. They also discussed their roles and responsibilities and the roles of different stakeholders – including both national and local government institutions. The sessions largely improved the level of awareness in regard to the importance of culture heritage for the society and the impact of their engagement to preserve and safeguard these assets. At the end of the session, the community-based organization members expressed interests and commitment for their engagement – they will be spreading these massages within their communities and mobilise the community to effectively engage in the protection of culture heritage in their local environment. The participants also expressed a lot of appreciation for BRD efforts and requested the continuation for such training programs.
