WHAT WE DO: OUR 4 KEY PROGRAMS

Four key programs have been designed for the sustainable development of human rights, civil society, government and the local economy. Capacity Building is the central theme to all our programs. Projects are designed with a long-term approach targeted to provide comprehensive and continuous benefits to a local population and its authorities instead of one-off interventions. Through numerous and wide-ranging interventions in any one community, BRD's programs encourages multi-stakeholders partnership building and in-depth understanding and cooperation with the communities it serves.

   OUR 4 KEY PROGRAMS
    Development of Viable Civil Society

Along with the Government and private sector, civil society is an important and legitimate actor in peace-building and democratization. Strong civil-society institutions, interacting with the state, can create innovative solutions to complex social and economic problems.

BRD believes that civil society has to be educated and trained to function effectively. Their awareness of their role in peace building and the promotion and protection of human rights has to be raised. Their skills and knowledge to implement development projects have to be enhanced.

  Human Rights

BRD believes that education is the key to the protection of human rights. The respect for rights by the majority of the population is the only guarantee that rights will be respected.

BRD agrees with the UN that the basis of human rights education is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Its simplicity of vision causes it to be accessible to people of all ages and conditions.

  Capacity Building of the Government

Afghanistan’s reconstruction needs well functioning governmental administration, which needs qualified and accountable human resources. Currently, Governmental departments are facing the lack of professional and skilled Afghan personnel; they do not have the skills and qualifications required for office management and to develop and implement development projects.

BRD is very actively involved in the capacity building of the Government. It aims to equip public administrators with proper management, process/skills, knowledge and techniques to improve service delivery and become self-reliant and effective.

  Capacity Building for Income Generation
To assist the country in achieving its poverty reduction goals, BRD has adopted capacity building for income generation as one of its major strategic imperatives. Its main thrust is in agriculture extension and micro enterprise development.

The goal of the program is to equip trainees with the skills that are in demand to improve their opportunities for employment in the developing market economy.
